Thank you to all the young people, organization and agency representatives and community members who participated in Brooklyn Community Board 14’s 8th Annual Youth Conference on April 29th, 2015 at the Brooklyn College Student Center! The event was packed with excellent program information, job, internship & volunteer opportunities, health and family services for young people, aged 12-19, along with great workshops! Anyone who missed the event, can take a look at the organizations listed below and can contact them directly for more information about their programs and other opportunities. Atlas DIY
As an incubator of education, empowerment and community for undocumented youth and their allies, Atlas DIY offers many youth opportunities including college preparation programs, legal help and internship opportunities.
Black Girls Code
Offering workshops and events to introduce girls of color to computer programming and other career opportunities in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM.)

Boys’ Club of New York

Brooklyn Music School
Brooklyn Music School offers year round extensive music & dance programs, as well as summer classes and community-based programs. Performance opportunities are offered throughout New York City.
Brooklyn On Tech
The Tech Flex Scholars Program is a yearlong enrichment experience for Brooklyn high school juniors and seniors that provides students with the resources needed to excel in today’s techno-centric society & inspires them to be next generation of tech thought leaders. The program offers scholars access to academic, professional and leadership opportunities in the field of technology and pairs them with mentors from leading companies such as Shapeways, Foursquare, JPMorganChase, General Assembly and MTV.
Brooklyn Public Library
Educational, Career, and Recreational library programs and services for youth and their families.
Brooklyn-Queens NOW
Students can learn about the rich 40-year history of the National Organization for Women (NOW) and find out about the many internships and volunteer opportunities that are available.
Brooklyn Smoke Free
Brooklyn Smoke-Free allows students to participate in public health policy. Students will develop creative initiatives to help educate peers and community members. The ultimate goal of this statewide program is to help reduce the number of youth smokers in our communities by using one of the best voices to combat the issues – the YOUTH voice.
Brooklyn South Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
Volunteer opportunities with local emergency response teams and information about personal & family disaster preparedness.
Catholic Charities Neighborhood Services
Free classes offered on subjects including parenting, domestic violence, anger management and job readiness.
Center For Court Innovation
Teenagers, ages 14-18, are invited to be part of a youth-led Board focused on researching public policy issues within New York City that affect teens. Throughout the year members focus on developing skills to help them further excel in school and everyday life, such as public speaking, note taking, college readiness, policy analysis, and writing skills.
CodeNow
Computer programming for high school students, taught during free weekend workshops at local tech companies where students receive instruction from industry leading software engineers.
Computer Science and Technology for Urban Youth (CSTUY)
Offering a month-long immersion program in computer science and programming for high school students at St. Joseph’s college. Opportunities also available to participate in other school year programs including Saturday morning “hacking sessions” and a hackathon.
Council of Peoples Organization (COPO)
Opportunities to enroll in a volunteer youth FBI program and to participate in weekend COPO youth programs.

Exploring NY
Career-focused, after-school program for students ages 14-20. Exploring NY partners with a diverse group of NYC-based businesses that host programs catering to students interested in those respective fields and providing excellent opportunities for community engagement, professional development, and resume-building.
Fire Department of New York (FDNY)

Flatbush Development Corporation
Summer employment opportunities including counselor positions at FDC’s summer camp programs; Year-round volunteer/internship opportunities for special events and community and youth outreach; Workforce training workshops.
Global Youth Connect

Grace Institute
Opportunities available to participate in the Young Professionals program (ages 18-24) which includes paid on-the-job training, as well as the Free Business Skills Training Program with Job Placement assistance.
Groundswell Murals
The Summer Leadership Institute offers paid summer jobs for youth interested in researching, designing and painting a large-scale mural with a social justice theme.
HABNET (Haitian-American Business Network)

HEAT Program (Health & Education Alternatives for Teens)
Offering information on volunteer opportunities & youth events, along with teen health information including HIV/AIDS Prevention & Safe Sexual Health resources.
Housing Works
Information about housing options for homeless youth, Primary Care Services information, dental services, mental health services referral information, drug treatment program information and STD/STI screening referrals.
HRA Office of Child Support Enforcement
NYC’s Human Resources Administration provides family-centered resources and services to enhance the quality of life of all New Yorkers.
Italian American Civil Rights League (IACRL)
IACRL opportunities include a Summer Youth Employment Program (Earn up to $1440 in 14 weeks); Free Employment Training; Free Customer Service Certification for 17-21 year olds; Work Readiness Programs; Pre-Worksite Internship Prep; Supportive Services Referrals.
JumpStart
Offering volunteer positions with NYC Jumpstart Summer Program (Applicants must be 18+) and the Brooklyn College School-Year Jumpstart Program.
Kiddie Science
Teen entrepreneurship program encourages young people to pursue their dream of establishing their own business, specifically a non-profit organization in the state of NY. Teens will have the opportunity to learn how to articulate their goals & passions and turn them into a mission statement that can guide the establishment of their own business.
Kingsborough Community College / Project RISE

National Youth Organization of Pakistan (NYOP)
NYOP youth group programs include language study, Conflict Resolution, Music & Cultural programming, Academic support & BRICK (Brooklyn Rebuild Immigrant Communities & Knowledge,) which hosts a 3-week Urdu Language Summer camp in August.
NEW (Nontraditional Employment for Women)
A free seven-to-nine week training program for women interested in blue collar careers. Upon graduation women are placed in union construction apprenticeships, facilities maintenance jobs, positions with public utilities and transportation careers.
New York Aquarium-WCS
For teens interested in wildlife conservation, science, education, and public speaking, the NY Aquarium is seeking teen volunteers (aged 15-19 yrs. old) to be discovery guides. Discovery Guides help staff exhibits, teach visitors about marine conservation, and assist at events and education programs. As a docent or discovery guide, teens have the opportunity to meet individuals from around the world and join a family of fellow volunteers, staff, and wildlife experts who share a passion for our natural world.

NYC Department of Education – District 79
ALL students can achieve at high levels and succeed in college and careers. Guided by this belief, District 79 helps students under age 21 who have experienced an interruption to their studies to graduate from high school, earn a high school equivalency diploma, build the skills to succeed in post-secondary opportunities, and gain the social-emotional skills necessary to become confident and productive members of society. Office of City Council Member Jumaane D. Williams
High School students can join Students Taking Action Today (S.T.A.T.) The 2015 S.T.A.T. youth summit will be Saturday, May 16th. Join now to get involved! Student 18-19 years old can apply for internship opportunities at both the Legislative & District Offices. Interns work in constituent services, community outreach, event planning and on initiatives such as Participatory Budgeting, along with legislative, budgeting and communications matters.

RecYouth – Parks and Recreation Computer Resource Center (CRC) Program
RecYouth is a free city-wide digital media education program for teens (ages 14-17) offering year-round programming, along with a five week intensive summer program. Teens receive training & access to resources allowing them to produce their own projects using video, audio, graphic design, photography, and game design technology.
Reel Works
The Reel Works Lab is a free after-school film making workshop that matches NYC teens one-on-one with professional filmmaker-mentors to learn how to create original short documentaries. Each fall and spring, 14 talented teens & 14 professional filmmakers are selected for a six-month workshop where students learn writing, storytelling, basic camera, lighting, sound and Final Cut Pro editing software. Films created in The Lab have been seen by over 8 million viewers worldwide, have earned five Student Emmys and have been featured on CNN, World News Tonight , the Oprah Winfrey Show and each week on NYC-Life. In 2008, The Lab was honored at the White House by the President’s Council on the Humanities as one of the top arts programs in the country.

Seek Find Fashion Guide
Sign up for a teen writing program called Pen & Paper, which will be hosted at the Brooklyn Public Central Library this summer. Teens will have the opportunity to develop their writing and have it published in various magazines and publications in New York City.
Sesame Flyers
Sesame Flyers offers tutoring, safe and nurturing spaces for children to play during the summer, youth-led community service activities, job readiness programs, case management and counseling for families in crisis, GED and computer technology programs, along with celebrations of the rich traditions of Caribbean nations as the eleven-time winner of the Large Band category in the West Indian American Labor Day Parade.
Shorefront Y Summer Day Camp
Apply for a job as a Summer Camp Counselor. Teens will spend an unforgettable summer working in a team creating a great environment for the Y’s camp community.
