Community Health Worker Program – LaGuardia Community College (LaGCC), Workforce Development, Adult Continuing Education presents an excellent opportunity to train to work as a Community Health Worker in the Healthcare field. CHWs are trusted, knowledgeable frontline health personnel who typically come from the communities they serve. CHWs bridge cultural and linguistic barriers, expand access to coverage and care, and improve health outcomes. he LaGCC Program prepares participants to work as CHWs, provides 125-hour paid internship a healthcare agency after the course and is a FREE program. Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Course:  The Fifth Avenue Committee’s Sunset Park Bridge Program is a free 6-week training program that offers classes and training to non-native English speakers to help them get a Class B Commercial Driver’s License.  Our trainees receive English language instruction, permit prep, pre-trip inspection prep, and more.  This program provides a Bridge for foreign born New Yorker’s to BWI’s Red Hook on the Road or to a career as a Commercial Driver.  Program requirements include: 21 years or older, valid US driver’s license for 2 years, and New York state residence and eligibility to work in the US.  For more information, please call 929-732-1021

Free YMCA Lifeguard Training Certification program – The YMCA is excited to offer new rounds of FREE lifeguard training and certification this spring.  The YMCA will offer spring courses in each borough (at the Broadway, Castle Hill, Cross Island, North Brooklyn, and Vanderbilt Ys), as well as spring break intensives at the Castle Hill and Rockaway YMCA. Pre-tests are required for this opportunity and are currently underway, with lots of times and dates at Ys across the city. Career Discovery NYC is a centralized resource to assist New Yorkers with career discovery and training. The portal provides online, no-cost trainings that prepare New Yorkers with the necessary skills to pursue a pathway for an in-demand career. It helps New Yorkers Explore (learn about a new career that’s in demand, including skill requirements and salary expectations,) Discover (take introductory courses to help you decide if a specific career is a good fit for you,) Prepare (Spend more time practicing what you’ve learned to gain comfort and familiarity with those skills,) and Train (Apply to training programs that can lead you to a new career.) You can also learn where to get low-cost or free internet access and support services. Career Discovery NYC is currently available for tech careers. Construction Jobs AvailableBuilding Skills New York works with a city-wide network of leading workforce agencies to provide free construction job placement assistance to unemployed and underemployed New York City residents. At our weekly job screening events, we interview job candidates and connect them with one of our industry partners looking for workers with their skill set. (New!) Apply for an Individual Training Grant & Find a New Career – Individual Training Grants (ITGs) pay for tuition, registration fees, testing fees, and books for in-demand trainings. ITGs are only available for training in certain occupations and at eligible training providers. Find out more about eligible occupations and training providers.  To qualify for an ITG, you must be at least 18 years old; have an updated resume; be looking for employment or be currently employed and making less than $63,928/year; be ready to work immediately after training; have a minimum of a High School diploma or equivalency and work experience (some occupations require a degree) & register at a Workforce1 Career Center. ITGs can fund course tuition, registration fees, testing fees, and books for short-term training programs (less than 1 year). Cable Installation Training ProgramBrooklyn Networks is a 6-week full-time program leading to a nationally recognized certification in low voltage cable installation. Graduates work installing telephone and computer lines, broadcast cable systems, home theaters and security systems. Minimum eligibility requirements: Must be at least 21 years old, valid NYS driver’s license; able to pass a reading and math test at 8th grade level; ability to lift and bend 70lbs; clean drug test. Career GPS – Vocational TrainingThese training’s are targeted at Young Adults 18-24 who are not in school and not working.  They include Information Technology which is 12 weeks  and trainees receive training in A+ Certification, Adobe Photoshop Certification, Workplace Success Job Readiness training, a 100-hour paid internship, and a Programming for Non-Programmers Bootcamp.     We also offer Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training that includes Workplace Success Job Readiness Training,  CNA certification, and a 100-hour paid internship.   Youth on this program can also partake in Skilled Build Construction Training.  This 6.5 week training includes 30 Hr. OSHA, Flagger, Scaffolding, F-60 Fire Guard and the 80-Hr NCCER Core certifications. Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Course: “Red Hook on the Road” is a free 4-week training program that allows participants to earn a NYS Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).  This course prepares participants for jobs as drivers of Class B/BP/BPS commercial vehicles such as trucks, school buses, coach or charter buses, airport shuttle buses and Access-A-Ride vehicles.  Program requirements include: 21 years or older and a clean NYS driver’s license for at least 2 years. Commercial Drivers (CDL) License Course: Cypress Hills is offering a free CDL course & job placement assistance for a career as a para-transit drivers. Para-transit drivers operate buses and vans providing service to people with medical mobility issues. Para-transit drivers go above and beyond the duties of a regular bus driver to ensure that passengers are safe and comfortable in transit. Commercial Drivers License (CDL), Environmental Remediation, and Skilled Build (Construction) Skills TrainingSt. Nicks Alliance offers three free skills training courses to help you obtain the skills you need to land jobs in growing areas of the economy. Job coaches guide students through assessment and training, and help them overcome any barriers to getting and keeping a job. Commercial Drivers License (CDL): 8-12 weeks. Class B license with passenger endorsements, Air Brakes, optional Hazmat and School Bus certifications. Environmental Remediation: 6 weeks. 30 Hr. OSHA, Confined Space, Asbestos Handling and 40 Hr. Community Organizer Apprenticeship Program – The Center for Neighborhood Leadership trains the next generation of community leaders and increases the capacity of grassroots organizations to win concrete changes for communities. The Organizing Apprenticeship is a rigorous ten month, five day per week training and educational program. Apprentices spend four days per week working at a host site, and one day per week in training. The Apprenticeship is conducted in partnership with Public Allies New York (PANY). Apprentices are paid a total of $17,000 and contribute 1,700 hours of service for the ten months. Candidates who speak Spanish, are ages 17-24, and do NOT have college degrees are especially encouraged to apply. Construction Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program: “BuildingWorks” is 3-month pre-apprenticeship training that prepares eligible candidates for a 4-year union apprenticeship in the commercial building trades, primarily in carpentry.  Classes are held during the day (M-F, 8:00 AM-3:30 PM) at the NYC District Council of Carpenters Labor Technical College in Manhattan.  Courses include workplace health & safety, basic carpentry, environmental worker training, and industry-related math.  The training is free but unpaid and there is no transportation assistance.  There is a “no excuse” attendance policy and participants must attend every day of the training.  Candidates who complete BuildingWorks may be recommended for the 4-year apprenticeship based on their performance in the program; there is no guarantee of job placement.  Original HS Diploma/GED, Social Security Card, and State-Issued Photo ID Card are required to apply.  Call 212-727-2224 ext. 102, or email bhigbee@nyccbf.org for more information.

Construction Training Program: Gain New Construction Skills and Improve Your Community! City Tech works in concert with New York City Housing Authority, Affordable Housing Developers and Local Unions to provide construction skills training and placement services. The program promotes training that results in long term employment, improved lives for participants and their families, and improved housing for residents of New York City. This program offers a free, full-time, and intensive 8-week program that provides participants with knowledge of the building trades and the opportunity to earn industry certificates including OSHA 10 hour and Supported Scaffolding as well as hands-on training in Sustainable Building and Blueprint Reading. Culinary Arts & Restaurant Industry Training – The Colors Hospitality and Opportunities for Workers (CHOW) Institute, a program of ROC-NY, offers a FREE 6-week Culinary Arts and Front of the House Restaurant skills training program to New York City residents, including individuals and families with employment barriers. Courses include Basic Cooking, Basic Pastry, Specialty Coffee/Barista, Edible Design & Cold Food Prep, NYC Food Protection Course & Certification, Server Training, Basic Wine Training, Customer Service Training & Basic Bartending Training. Culinary Arts Career Training: At Brooklyn Job Corps, students receive the skills they need to succeed in today’s workforce – at no cost to them or their families. In addition to academic training, students can enroll to receive career technical training in the field of culinary arts, learning all the back- and front-of-house skills needed to succeed in the restaurant industry, from family-friendly to five-star fine dining. All career technical training areas are aligned with industry standards and are designed to meet the requirements of today’s careers. Culinary Training Program: Line Cooks – Stage NYC is a FREE 12-week culinary training program designed to meet the growing demand for qualified kitchen employees in New York City’s restaurants while simultaneously increasing access for young adults looking to start their careers in the culinary arts.  Participants will gain the technical skills, industry exposure and paid on-the-job training experience with various restaurant employers, necessary to launch and grow rewarding careers as line cooks in the hospitality industry. During the on-the-job training portion of StageNYC participants will be paid $12 an hour by their host restaurant.  While not guaranteed, this position does have the possibility to turn into full-time work after the training. Decorative Arts Training for People with Disabilities – In its more than 20 years of existence, the Alpha Workshops has provided free training in the decorative arts primarily to students who were HIV+ and while that is still the case, the school is now opening its enrollment to a broader spectrum of candidates. Some examples of the decorative arts skills that we teach are: gilding with metal leaf; understanding of color and paints; glazing techniques (putting a translucent color over a base color to achieve a specific effect); troweled finishes (plaster-based materials applied to walls for a specific effect); and how to transfer designs onto walls for painting, etc.  The curriculum is done in two parts – an “Introduction to Decorative Arts Technique” which is ten weeks long, three days per week (from 9:30am to 5:00pm).  If the student does well in this course, they are invited to take the advanced course which is 26 weeks long, three days a week (9:30am-5:00pm).  Included in the Advanced Program is a work readiness component which is intended to prepare students for entry level work in decorative paining. Employment Services (for Homeless or Low-Income Women) – First Step is a free  15-week Job Training Program. Homeless and low-income women qualify for job training, career development support and job placement assistance. Women will receive computer training in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and internet research, in addition to typing, resume writing, interviewing skills and literacy building and will participate in a 2-month internship before being placed in a job. Women will can also participate in mentoring opportunities, self-esteem building & empowerment workshops, case management & support groups. Good Shepherd Services: Rebound Program – Ongoing Recruitment!!!! Rebound is an innovative work readiness program that uses the game of basketball to help youth focus on their future and prepare them for careers and college. Mental Health First Aid Training – Mental Health First Aid is a groundbreaking public education program which introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems, builds understanding of their impact, and overviews common treatments. Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour certification course, which uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to assess a mental health crisis; select interventions and provide initial help; and connect persons to professional, peer, social, and self-help care. The program also teaches about the risk factors and warning signs of specific illnesses like anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, and addictions. MHFA is the initial help given to someone who may be developing a mental illness or experiencing a mental health crisis. SNAP Employment & Training ProgramThis CAMBA program offers training opportunities & job placement for Food Stamp/SNAP Recipients. Tech Apprenticeship (CNC Machinists) –  ApprenticeNYC is a paid, full-time apprenticeship opportunity that provides classroom-based technical training and on-the-job training that helps New York City job seekers develop in-demand skills in a long-term occupation with high growth potential. The computer numerically controlled (CNC) machinist track of the program provides 10 weeks of classroom training and 62 weeks of on-the-job training with employers in the advanced manufacturing sector. You will be trained for a Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) Machinist position. In this role, you will work with computer numeric controlled (CNC) heavy machinery from setup to operation to produce parts and tools from metal, plastic or other materials. You will continue your training and education through your employment. Starting pay as an apprentice is $15 per hour. As you gain more skills, you receive several merit-based pay increases. Tech Career Training (Computer Network Support) – CUNY TechWorks and The Borough of Manhattan Community College Center for Continuing Education and Workforce Development, are now offering a free 22-week computer training program in Computer Network Support, for qualified participants. Tech Career Training (Computer Tech Certification for Women): The “Women in Tech” (WIT) program is a full-time, 13-week training program (M-F, 9AM-4PM) designed to increase the number of women technicians gaining IT (Information Technology) certifications and entering IT jobs. WIT is 100% free to participants and classes are offered every quarter. WIT provides CompTIA A+ and Network+ certification training along with tailored activities to help women prepare to succeed in an overwhelmingly male-dominated workforce, including presentations by successful women IT professionals, workplace site visits and other exercises simulating typical challenges reported by women in the IT world. Tech Career Training (Website Design & Development Program) – The NYC Web Development Fellowship is now accepting applications for its next training, which begins in January and will train participants in the skills necessary to kick off careers in web development.  They are looking for NYC residents ages 18 – 26 who do not have a four-year college degree, and who do not have professional web development experience.  The program includes a five-month on-campus training, a 12-week paid internship in companies like BuzzFeed and Microsoft, and placement in technology jobs paying $65,000 or more. Technology Job Training and Professional Development – Per Scholas offers no cost training to prepare for entry level technology careers. Courses are 100% cost-free to learners before, during and after. Per Scholas learners receive hands-on technical training, professional development, direct connections to jobs at employer partners, certifications such as CompTIA A+ and Google IT Support, learner support resources like financial coaching and emergency financial support, as well as alumni services for up to 2 years post-graduation. The 12-15 week courses require a full time Monday-Friday 9am-4pm commitment with an additional 10-20 hours of studying outside of class. Woodworking Training Course: “Brooklyn Woods” is a 7-week full-time course in woodworking preparing for entry-level jobs in custom woodworking, cabinetmaking and fabrication. Trainees learn the proper use of hand tools, power tools and woodworking machinery; math and measurement; an introduction to finishing and installation. Minimum eligibility requirements: Must be at least 21 years old, able to pass 6th grade math/8th grade reading tests;  physically fit and able to lift 70 lbs; background in or strong interest in working with tools, laboring experience; good hand and spatial skills a plus. Young Adult Internship Program (YAIP) (Ages 17-24): 14 week paid internship for young adults 17-24 who have been out of school and unemployed for a month prior to the start date of the program.  Participants earn $13 an hour and must be able to commit to 25 hours a week, Monday through Friday 9am to 3pm.  Diploma/GED is not required.
