Compost for Brooklyn Spring Hours

The Compost For Brooklyn (C4B) Community Garden will be open to the public every Thursday from 1-3:30 pm through the end of June along with the following Saturdays from 11 am -1 pm: March 22, April 12 &  26, May 10 & 24, June 14 & 28.  Volunteers are needed to help unload trees on Friday, April 4th @ 7 am (for no more than 1 hour). Hot coffee and muffins will be provided. Email Natalia at: snucre@optonline.net if you would like to volunteer.

Composting is available for residential food scraps at the C4B Garden located at East 8th Street & Newkirk Avenue in Brooklyn. (Please no dairy, meat, bones, woody material, lawn clippings, coconut shells, or “compostable” dinnerware).  To find out more about Compost For Brooklyn’s  volunteer opportunities & community events, continue reading below.




Spring  2014 Tree Giveaway   

Sunday, April 6, 2014
12 noon to 2 pm
C4B Community Garden (corner of Newkirk Avenue and East 8th
St.)


125 trees will be given away, and lots of information for all new owners about how to get the trees safely planted, and how to take care of them so they make it to maturity—so they give their owners shade, beauty, and the satisfaction of watching the grow. New tree owners may register on the NYRP website in advance or come on the day of the event and decide which tree they want.
 



 

Donate your books for the Compost for Brooklyn Book Sale!

 Donations welcome during our Open Hours: Every Thursday from 1 PM - 3:30 PM or March 22nd from 11 am - 1 pm.

The book sale will be held during the Tree Give Away on Sunday,  April 6th from noon to 2.  Please stop by and browse the books. 


Volunteer Shift Leaders Needed

Shift Leader Volunteer

Job Description: Shift leaders are what make Compost for Brooklyn Open Hours work- and we have a great time while we’re at it!   During Open Hours, community members may stop by to drop off food scraps, to visit the garden, and to learn more about Compost for Brooklyn.

Shift Leader Training: Training will occur during our regularly scheduled Open Hours (every second or fourth Saturday and every Thursday). If you are interested in being trained, email: snucre@optonline.net  with the date you’d like to be trained.

Open Hours Sign Up: We are in need of shift leaders to run our Saturday and Thursday Open Hours through the end of March.  Email snucre@optonline.net with the date you’d like to host.
