NYC School Bus Service Resumes
Attention parents and guardians of students who receive yellow bus service: The strike by the bus drivers’ union is over. School bus service resumed on Wednesday, February 20th. Students who were assigned to a new route during the strike will remain on that route until they hear from the Office of Pupil Transportation. Urdu Summer Language Camp
All students interested in learning or improving their Urdu language skills are welcome to attend the Urdu summer camp from August 3rd-August 14th in Brooklyn. The camp will provide an opportunity for students to enhance their language skills from basic conversational Urdu to formal reading and writing. The camp will also provide students with an understanding of the Urdu-speaking community’s traditions from a historical, social and cultural point of view. The Urdu language camp is sponsored by the Allama Iqbal Community Center, the National Youth Organization of Pakistan & Human Friends International. Cyber-Bullying Town Hall Event
Midwood High School is hosting a Town Hall Meeting on Thursday, April 19th 2012 at 5 PM. The topic will be on Cyber-bullying and how schools, students, and parents can implement effective measures to deal with this problem. The guest speaker will be ADA Frank Laghezza from the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office. His presentation will provide insight on how to recognize and resolve matters surrounding cyber-bullying. This meeting is open to the public.

Student Internship Opportunity – New York Aquarium
Teens in Conservation: Careers in Aquatic Research& Education (C.A.R.E.) Program
The C.A.R.E. paid internship with the New York Aquarium is open to 9th, 10th or 11th grade students between the ages of 14-17 currently enrolled in a public or private New York City high school who are interested in the field of marine biology. C.A.R.E. interns must commit to participating in this 50-hour program that will take place over the course of 10 days (Saturdays) from February 4, 2012 to April 14, 2012. Below you will find a link for more information and an application. The deadline to apply has been extended to Monday, January 9th.
Free Pre-K, Registration through 1/31/2012
United Cerebral Palsy of New York is offering extended registration for their free Universal Pre-K program through January 31, 2012. The UCP center is located at 160 Lawrence Avenue in Brooklyn and offers a free, high-quality, family friendly learning environment for all children. The UCP program has been in operation locally for over 60 years. All classes are taught by NYS certified teachers and assistants and the center features many additional amenities such as technology enhanced classrooms, an indoor pool and indoor and outdoor play spaces.

Public Hearing on New Primary/Intermediate School for Community School District No. 22
CB14 has learned that the New York City School Construction Authority is planning to construct a new approximately 735-seat primary/intermediate school for the children of Community School District 22, which serves the majority of school children in Community District 14.
The physical location of the school is anticipated to be located within Community District 12 on the block bounded by Coney Island Avenue, Turner Place, East 8th Street, and Hinckley Place.
Therefore, pursuant to Section 1731 of the New York City School Construction Authority Act, Community Board 12 is holding a public hearing to invite the public to comment on the proposed site plan for the new school. All comments will be taken into consideration in the NYC School Construction Authority’s final decision regarding this matter. Representatives from the NYC Department of Education and the NYC School Construction Authority will be present. The Public Hearing will be held on:
